THE BIBLE LITERALLY TRUE? by steve finnell

According to a 2007 Gallup poll only one-third of Americans believe the Bible is literally true, word for word. The believers breakdown is, Protestants 40%, other Christians 45%, and Catholics 21%. That being the case, the majority of believers in Christ either rely on others sources for truth other than the Bible or they believe there is no absolute truth.

It your denomination does not believe the Bible is literally true, word for word, then it must rely on man-made doctrine for truth. Examples: Church creed books, Bible commentaries, Church statements of faith.

ARE DOCTRINES OF MEN LITERALLY TRUE, WORD FOR WORD?

Mark 7:'But in vain do they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men'(NASB)

If men do not believe the Bible to be literally true, word for word. Then why read it? Then why study it? Why even believe in a God that cannot provide a trustworthy Bible?

How can men trust God and not trust His book? How can men trust Jesus as Lord and Savior and not trust His words recorded in the Bible?

  1. Romans 1:28: "And according as they did not think good to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind..."; slightly different but the same principle: to accept the inerrancy of the Scriptures would condemn men themselves.
