EARLY CHRISTIAN WRITERS BY STEVE FINNELL

Do the historical writings of Christians confirm God's word, can we feel confident in our doctrinal positions by quoting early Christian writings? We often like to quote these authors to support a particular views we hold concerning Christianity.

WRITERS WE QUOTE: Ignatius, Justin Martyr, Tertullian, John Calvin, Alexander Campbell, Clement, John Wesley, Polycarp of Smyrna, Martin Luther, Irenaeus, Joesph Smith etc.

Mark 16:20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them, and confirmed the word by signs that followed.

The Lord confirmed His word. His word is found in the Bible and the Bible alone. The Lord does not need extra-Biblical writers to confirm His word. What Christian authors write is confirmed, by God, only if it is found in the Scriptures.

Ephesians 2:19-20 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone,

We are not God's people because of the foundation built by, extra-Biblical, early Christian writers nor contemporary creed  books, catechisms, new revelations, or other man-made writings.

THE BIBLE HAS BEEN CONFIRMED. EXTRA-BIBLICAL WRITINGS HAVE NOT BEEN CONFIRMED BY GOD!
